Matt Anderson, a 6-10 outside hitter for then-No. 2 Penn State, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week for his solid play in leading the Nittany Lions to three crucial wins last week, including victories over two nationally-ranked Division I teams. In Penn State's first match of the week, a sweep of Division III powerhouse Juniata, Anderson played in only two games and scored 10 kills and one dig in the win. In his next match, a 3-0 win over then-No. 12 Loyola-Chicago, he hit at a .533 clip with 19 kills in 30 attempts and only three errors. He also had two digs and four total blocks. He ended the week by hitting .500 on 16 kills in 26 attempts and three errors in another three-game sweep, this time against then-No. 10 IPFW. He also chipped in five digs and three total blocks to his team's efforts. For the week, Anderson hit .486 while averaging 5.62 kills, 1.00 digs and 6.38 points per game, as well as nearly one block per game. This is the 11th time an athlete from Penn State has been named Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week award.
