Eric Vance, a 6-4 outside hitter for then-No. 4 Cal State Northridge, has
been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of
the Week after helping lead the Matadors to wins over two nationally-ranked
opponents last week, then-No. 7 UC Irvine and then-No. 6 UCLA. In CSN's
first match, a sweep of the defending NCAA Men’s National Champion
Anteaters, Vance put away 23 kills, while also tallying three digs, one ace
and one block, while hitting .311. In his next match, against the Bruins,
Vance scored double-digit kills once again, landing 18 kills on .310
hitting, while adding nine digs, one ace and two blocks to his team's
offensive attack. For the week, Vance averaged 5.86 kills, 1.71 digs and
6.36 points per game, and hit at a .310 clip. This is the seventh time a
player from Cal State Northridge has earned the Sports Imports/AVCA Division
I-II Men's National Player of the Week. The last Matador to earn the honor
was Dan Rhodes on January 20, 2006. Cal State Northridge is coached by Jeff
Campbell.
