Theo Brunner, a 6-7 middle blocker for UC Santa Barbara, has been named the
Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week. The
senior earns the award after helping the Gauchos to a season sweep of its
two-match series against then-No. 13 Hawai'i for the second consecutive
year. In Friday's 3-2 win, Brunner hit .462 while putting away a match-high
21 kills and scoring 24 points. He also notched five blocks and six digs in
the win. He followed that up on Saturday by hitting .457 behind a team-best
25 kills, tallying 27 points and four blocks in UCSB's 3-1 second win over
the Warriors. For the week, Brunner hit at a .459 clip, while averaging 5.1
kills, one block and 5.7 points per game. This is the ninth time an athlete
from UC Santa Barbara has earned the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's
National Player of the Week award. Evan Patak was the last Gaucho to receive
the honor, February 12, 2007. UC Santa Barbara is coached by Ken Preston.
