Lowery led the Mavericks to
an undefeated season and the NAIA National Championship title.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 12,
2006) - The
American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), in conjunction with Tachikara
USA, Inc., is proud to announce that Todd Lowery of National American (S.D.) has
been selected as the 2006 Tachikara/AVCA NAIA National Coach of the YearSM.
This
season, Lowery led the Mavericks to a perfect 41-0 record and the NAIA National
Championship with a 3-1 win over Fresno Pacific University. It was only the
fourth time all season that National American was taken to four games. Lowery
was also tabbed the NAIA Tournament Coach of the Year.
"It is a great
honor to be named Coach of the Year," said Lowery. "I look at the NAIA coaches
that have received this award in the past and it includes some of the most
successful coaches in the NAIA, and to be considered with that group is amazing.
I think of all the coaches and teams that had great seasons this year and to be
singled out as Coach of the Year is something special. I had a group of nine
girls that made this season unforgettable, and they deserve all the credit in
the world for our accomplishments this year."
In his five seasons at the
helm at National American, Lowery has compiled a 188-11 record, and been named
NAIA Region III Coach of the Year five times.
Tachikara will formally
present the AVCA NAIA National Coach of the YearSM
award to Todd Lowery on Dec. 14 in Omaha, Neb. at the Tachikara/AVCA Coach of
the Year and Victory Club AwardsSM
banquet. The banquet is held in conjunction with the 2006 AVCA Annual
Convention.
