Dordt College's Tom Van Den
Bosch Named 2003 Tachikara/AVCA NAIA National Coach of the Year
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO - The American Volleyball
Coaches Association (AVCA), in conjunction with Tachikara USA, Inc, is proud to
announce that Tom Van Den Bosch of Dordt College has been selected as the 2003
Tachikara/AVCA NAIA National Coach of the Year.
Van Den Bosch finished his seventh season at Dordt College by taking the team to
its first National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Final Four. The Lady
Defenders accumulated an overall record of 37-6 and a perfect 16-0 record in the
Great Plains Athletic Conference en route to winning the postseason conference
tournament.
Van Den Bosch was named the GNAP Coach of the Year this season and third time
overall. He has twice earned the South Dakota Iowa Conference Coach of the Year.
Van Den Bosch was the head volleyball coach at Western Christian High School
(Iowa) prior to coaching at Dordt. He compiled a 709-71 overall record and led
16 teams to the state tournament during his tenure at Western Christian. WCHS
won four state titles, two second-place finishes and four other final four
appearances.
Van Den Bosch has collected a 947-124 record and a winning percentage of .884.
Tachikara will formally present the AVCA NAIA National Coach of the Year award
on Dec. 18 in Dallas at the Tachikara/AVCA Coach of the Year banquet. The brunch
is held in conjunction with the 2003 AVCA Annual Convention.
