Susan and Wayne Kreklow
Honored as 1998 Tachikara/AVCA NAIA National Co-Coaches of the Year
Colorado Springs, Colo.
- The American Volleyball Coaches Association, in conjunction with Tachikara,
is proud to announce that Susan and Wayne Kreklow of the Columbia College
have been selected as the 1998 AVCA/Tachikara NAIA National Co-Coaches
of the Year.
The Kreklows led Columbia College to a
perfect 45-0 record and their first-ever NAIA national championship.
On the season the team lost just three of 138 games played, including ending
the season by winning 110 consecutive games. The Cougars did not
drop a single game to NAIA opponents. They defeated No. 2 Fresno
Pacific, No. 3 Biola, No. 5 Dickinson State, No. 7 Northwest Nazarene and
No. 9 Texas Lutheran en route to the national championship.
The Cougars have captured three consecutive
American Midwest Conference (AMC) and Midwest Region Championships.
They have also advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA national tournament
in each of the last three seasons. Overall the Cougars have won the
past six AMC Championships and the past four Midwest Region Championships.
This is the second consecutive year the
Kreklows have been honored with the Tachikara/AVCA NAIA National Coach
of the Year award.
Tachikara will formally present the Coach
of the Year awards on Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, in Madison, Wis. The
luncheon, which will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Marriott Madison West,
is held in conjunction with the 1998 AVCA National Convention.
