Inc., is proud to announce that Donna Hawkins of Georgetown College has
been selected as the 1999 Tachikara/AVCA NAIA National Coach of the Year.
During the 1999 campaign, Hawkins
led the Georgetown Tigers to their highest ranking in school history (No.

ever. For the season, the Tigers earned a 40-5 mark.
In her 20 seasons at the Tiger helm,
Hawkins’ teams have compiled a record of 623-217, making her the winningest
NAIA coach in history (counting wins at NAIA institutions only).
Her tenure has seen 16 National Scholar-Athletes, 14 All-Americans (First-Team
through Honorable Mention), two GTE Academic All-Americans, one Fulbright
Scholar, 46 All-Conference players, two A.O. Duer National Award winners,
one NAIA Elite Eight appearance and numerous in-season tournament championships.
In addition, the Tigers have captured the conference title nine years in
a row and have made six trips to the national tournament.
During 1999, Hawkins captured career
win No. 600 unprecedented at Georgetown in any sport in a victory
over King College, Nov. 25, 1999.
Hawkins’ teams have not lost a single
game much less a match against a league foe since Nov. 1, 1997,
when they lost game No. 1, 13-15, to Lambuth.
Hawkins came to Georgetown in 1980
after teaching and coaching at the high school level. She is an honor
graduate and a three-sport athletic alumnus of Georgetown College.
She holds a master’s degree from the University of Kentucky and serves

Foundation Coach of the Year. She was also inducted to the inaugural
class of the Georgetown College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998.
Tachikara will formally present the
