Molly Krikke, a senior
middle blocker from then-No. 16 Calvin College, has been named the Sports
Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week after her strong,
consistent play against five different opponents last week. In the Knights’
first match of the week, a 3-1 win over St. Mary's (Ind.), Krikke hit .451
behind 23 kills in 51 attempts and zero errors. She also chipped in seven
digs, two aces and five total blocks to her team's winning effort. In
Calvin's next match, Krikke had 30 kills, eight digs and five total blocks
while helping her team to a 3-2 win over Kalamazoo. Against Hanover, she
hit .422 on the strength of 23 kills, while also getting five total blocks
to help lead the Knights to a sweep of the Panthers. Her week wasn't over
yet, however, as Krikke helped her team to two more wins – both sweeps –
over Albion and Anderson. Against Albion, she had 14 kills, three digs, five
total blocks and one ace, while against Anderson she had 17 kills, four
total blocks and one ace in the win. For the week, Krikke hit .397 while
averaging 5.94 kills, 1.11 digs, 1.33 blocks and 7.27 points per game.
Krikke is the third athlete from Calvin to earn Sports Imports/AVCA Division
III National Player of the Week honors, and the first since Jill Harkema on
October 28, 1996. Calvin is coached by Amber Warners.
