Catelyn Samoranski, a senior
outside hitter for Russell Sage College, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA
Division III National Player of the Week after leading her team to their
first-ever Skyline Conference Championship, and first-ever bid to the NCAA
tournament. Samoranski began the day with a 13-kill, eight-dig, two-ace
performance in helping the Gators to a sweep of Mount St. Mary's. She
followed that up by hitting .529 while scoring a double-double with 18
kills, 12 digs and four aces in Russell Sages' second sweep in a row, this
one against Farmingdale. For the week, Samoranski hit at a .388 clip and
averaged 5.16 kills, 3.33 digs and 6.16 points per game. Samoranski also
earned one other "first" for her school this week – she is the first women’s
volleyball player from Russell Sage to be named Sports Imports/AVCA Division
III National Player of the Week. The Gators are coached by Lisa Gallagher.
