Andrea Morrone, a senior setter from Lewis University, has
been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week.
She earned the award for helping lead her team to wins over two opponents
last week, including a 3-0 upset of then-No. 17 Indianapolis, which snapped
the Greyhounds' 25-match win streak. In the Flyers first match of the week,
a 3-0 sweep of St. Joseph's, Morrone played in only two games and had 23
assists while leading Lewis to a .233 team hitting percentage. She also
added 14 digs, one ace and one total block in the win. She followed that up
with 48 assists while leading the Flyers to a .333 team hitting percentage
in the win over UIndy. She also scored seven kills and nine digs in the
contest. For the week, Morrone averaged 14.20 assists, 4.60 digs and 2.00
kills per game, while leading her team to a .282 hitting percentage. Morrone
is only the second athlete from Lewis to earn Sports Imports/AVCA Division
II National Player of the Week. The previous winner was Katie Gilman on
Sept. 16, 2002. Lewis is coached by Lorelee Smith.
