Emily
Schroeder, a senior outside hitter for Wayne State College in Nebraska, has
been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week.
In three matches last week in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC)
Tournament, Schroeder tallied two triple-doubles, including one against
top-10 challenger Southwest Minnesota State. In the tournament’s opening
round against Northern State, Schroeder collected her only non-triple-double
of the week, tallying 16 kills, 13 digs and six total blocks, as Wayne State
advanced with a sweep of the Wolves. The Wildcats’ semifinal date was with
then-No. 9 Southwest Minnesota State, where Schroeder landed 16 kills,
tallied 17 digs and added 11 total blocks, helping her team to the finals
with a 3-1 upset. Against Minnesota State-Moorhead, Schroeder led her team
to its first NSIC Volleyball Tournament championship, racking up 16 more
kills, 15 digs and 13 blocks in a 3-1 win. Named to the All-Tournament
team, Schroeder averaged 4.36 kills, 4.09 digs, 2.73 blocks and 5.91 points
per game. Schroeder, the only player from Wayne State (Neb.) to win the
Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week award, has now
garnered the honor twice, last winning in October of 2006. The Wildcats are
coached by Scott Kneifl.
