Tessa Jones, a senior right side/opposite for then-No. 8
Washburn, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player
of the Week. She earned the award for her strong performance in leading the
Lady Blues to two wins last week, including a 3-1 upset of then-No. 5
Florida Southern. In Washburn's first match, a sweep of Fort Hays State,
Jones tallied nine kills, seven digs, one ace and two total blocks. She
followed that up with a .339 hitting percentage behind 24 kills in 62
attempts and only three errors in the win over Florida Southern. She added
14 digs, one ace and six total blocks in the upset of the Mocs. For the
week, Jones averaged 4.71 kills, 3.0 digs, 1.14 blocks and 5.57 points per
game, and has helped lead Washburn to a 15-1 start to the ’07 season. Jones
is the second player from Washburn to be named Sports Imports/AVCA Division
II National Player of the Week, and the first since Emily Foster on October
