Cynthia Barboza, a junior outside hitter for then-No. 2 Stanford, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. She earned the award for her play in helping the Cardinal to back-to-back sweeps of Pac-10 rivals Oregon State and then-No. 19 Oregon last week. Against Oregon State, Barboza scored her first double-double of the week, tallying 17 kills in 35 attempts and zero errors for a .486 hitting percentage, while adding 13 digs and two total blocks to her team's efforts. She followed that up by hitting at a .455 clip behind 18 kills in 33 attempts and three errors in the win over Oregon. She also had 12 digs, one ace and two total blocks, for her second double-double in two days. For the week, Barboza hit at a .471 percentage, and averaged 5.8 kills and 4.17 digs per game. Barboza’s honor is the 11th time a player from Stanford has earned the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. The previous Cardinal to earn the honor was Bryn Kehoe on November 27, 2006. Stanford is coached by John Dunning.
