Alexis Crimes, a senior middle blocker for Long Beach State University, has been named this week's Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. Crimes earned the award for her outstanding play in leading the 49ers to three sweeps last week, which extended Long Beach's win streak to five. In Long Beach's first match of the week against Cal State Fullerton, Crimes hit at a .548 clip with 20 kills in 31 attempts and only three errors. She also chipped in three digs and four total blocks in the win. Against Cal State Bakersfield, she tallied 17 kills in 23 attempts and only one error for a .696 hitting percentage, while adding five digs and three total blocks. She finished the week with her best match statistically, hitting .636 behind 21 kills in 33 attempts and zero errors against Cal State Northridge. She added seven digs and one ace in the victory. For the three matches, Crimes, who also earned her second Big West Player of the Week award and seventh of her career this week, hit at an amazing .621 and averaged 6.44 kills, 1.67 digs and .78 blocks per game. This is the sixth time a player from Long Beach State has earned the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week award, and the first since Jillian Mazzarella on September 29, 2003.
