Nelligan Leads Bears to Perfect 5-0 Week
Sep. 23- Jackie Nelligan, a junior middle blocker for No. 7 Washington-St. Louis, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week. The Bears won all five matches last week including winning all four at the Elmhurst Invite with Nelligan leading the way. After defeating Greenville and Heidelberg, they had a tough matchup with No. 14 Saint Benedict where in five sets, she tied a career-best nailing 18 kills on .429 hitting. She continued her hot play against UW-Platteville and No. 11 Eastern, accumulating a combined 15 kills recording hitting percentages of .636 and .471, respectively, giving her a .400 hitting percentage or higher in four of the five matches. For the week, she averaged 2.78 kills and one block per set and hit .453.
This is the NCAA Division III leading 26th time Washington-St. Louis has garnered Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week honors, with the most recent winner coming from Caroline Dupont on September 10, 2013. The Bears are coached by Vanessa Walby.
