Women's NAIA Player of the Week
2011 NAIA National Player of the Week
| KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Indiana Wesleyan outside hitter Peyton Thompson has been named the final NAIA Volleyball National Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Thompson was selected based on her performance from Oct. 31 - Nov. 6 and was chosen out of a pool of conference player of the week selections among 23 conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings. Thompson fueled the red-hot Wildcats to two more victories. She put down 12 kills and added five digs in a 25-17, 25-15, 25-13 Mid-Central College Conference (MCCC) win over Bethel (Ind.) on Nov. 2. In their biggest win of the season, Thompson slammed down a season-high 26 kills as the No. 15 Wildcats ended No. 12 Taylor's (Ind.) 53-match conference winning streak, 22-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-20, on Nov. 4. Her .579 hitting percentage in the battle of the MCCC's top-two squads helped the Wildcats (31-4) claim their 13th-straigth victory. The 5-foot-11 senior from Plano, Texas, ranks second on her team with 365 kills, third in hitting percentage at .283 and fourth in total blocks with 61. Thompson becomes the first player from the MCCC to win the award since Taylor's Kelsey Pritchard received weekly honors last season. |
