Memo From NCAA on Official Match Lengths and Puerto Rico (9/4/2003)

Date: 9/4/2003
TO: NCAA Member Schools
FR: Bonnie Senappe, NCAA Assistant Director of Statistics, and Crissy Schluep, NCAA Women's Volleyball Rules Liaison
RE: Puerto Rico matches going only 25 games

It has come to our attention that volleyball matches played by some of the NCAA member schools in Puerto Rico have been played to only 25 points, rather than the required 30 points for an official contest for NCAA purposes. Matches not played to the full 30-point result cannot count in team or individual statistics, won-lost records, or coaching records. Please refer to the 2003 Volleyball Rules and Interpretations book, page 36.

A reminder, too, that only contests against varsity intercollegiate teams of four-year, degree-granting institutions shall be included in individual and team statistics, won-lost record and coaching records.

If you have any volleyball statistical questions, I can be reached at (317) 917-6142. If you need to contact the NCAA about volleyball rules issues, please contact Crissy Schluep at (317) 917-6121.
