AVCA: Who or what has made you want to pursue coaching?
Ryan Sullivan: I've been unofficially coaching my own team for basically the past 9 years. The responsibility creates new challenges and goals on a daily basis. I feel that coaching is my calling; I've experienced success in every team I've been a part of.
AVCA: Who or what has been your biggest coaching influence?
RS: My mother was a boys' high school coach for years (recently retired). Once I came out of the womb I became a gym rat, going to all her practices, learning as much as I could. She mentored me throughout my childhood.
AVCA: Please list your past and present coaching/playing experiences:
- Adversity Volleyball Club, 1st Team All-State in Illinois (Mundelein High School)
- Indiana University Men's Club Volleyball, 3 top-10 finishes (including 3rd in 2010)
- Head Coach, Hoosierland Girls 15-1 (2011)
- Volunteer Assistant Coach for Indiana University Women's Volleyball Team
AVCA: What are you most looking forward to at the 2012 AVCA Annual Convention?
RS: I'm looking forward to meeting as many people as possible, expanding my network in the field. I'm excited to attend my first AVCA event - the experience will open the door to the future.
