AVCA: Who or what has made you want to pursue coaching?

Rachelle Wiegand: Since my sophomore year of college, I knew that I wanted to become a collegiate volleyball coach. My career choice has been heavily influenced by world-class coaches such as Tom Tait, Larry Bock, Russ Rose, Mark and Heather Pavlik and Stephanie Strauss, all who I have either been coached by or had the opportunity to work with. I have been fortunate to be surrounded by coaches who pursue whole-heartedly a championship team culture. They love what they do and believe in it. Their fervor, passion and commitment has created an environment that is energizing and has proven contagious to me.

AVCA: Who or what has been your biggest coaching influence?

RW: My biggest coaching influence has undoubtedly been from Juniata College's head coach, Heather Pavlik and her assistant coach, Stephanie Strauss.  Both coaches have been instrumental in igniting my desire to coach while being excellent role models. Heather has challenged me both on and off the court since I was a freshman.  Stephanie went from being my teammate her senior year to being my coach the following year. I have watched her grow and progress as a coach while setting an example for me of transitioning from a player to a coach. Stephanie has worked with me to create a degree that is specifically tailored towards coaching and has also inspired me to consider furthering my education as a graduate assistant.
