It was a dominant performance for Team West in the 2014 AVCA Under Armour All-American Match and Skills Competition. Team West jumped out to an early lead and didn't hit the brakes for the duration of the match, as they trounced Team East team in three sets, 25-16, 25-18, 25-15. Team West was powered by the strong attacking of McKenna Granato and Alexa Smith, recording 10 and 9 kills, respectively. Team East put up a fight against the powerful Team West offense, and libero Amber MacDonald recorded 11 digs in a hard-fought defensive effort.
Team West was coached by Al Bennett of Westlake High School (Austin, TX) and Team East was coached by Angie Spangenberg of Harlan Community High School (Harlan, IA). The two coaches were recognized earlier this year as the 2014 AVCA National High School Coaches of the Year.
The event also included a skills competition to determine the best setter and the strongest attacker.
