Seattle, WA (December 20, 2013) - It took three sets, but Team West prevailed over Team East in the 2013 edition of the Under Armour All-America Match by scores of 18-25, 25-13, 25-12. Key Arena in downtown Seattle played host to the match, which was attended by an enthusiastic crowd on Friday night.
Lauryn Gillis, who was named the Most Valuable Player for Team East, displayed a wide range of skills in her time on the court, recording four kills in a flurry of offensive precision. Lauryn will be suiting up for the University of Southern California next season and should have an impact at the outside hitter position. Ali Frantti also recorded six kills in her appearance for Team East.
Ashlie Reasor also racked up an impressive six kills, adding three digs of her own and showcasing a variety of talents. Her play earned recognition as the Team West Most Valuable Player. Courtney Schwan also stood out for Team West, putting forth an outstanding defensive effort in recording ten digs. Schwan will be attending the University of Washington next season.
Team East jumped out to a fast start in set one, putting away Team West 25-18. Team West came together as the match progressed, though, and handled Team East easily in sets two and three, winning 25-13 and 25-12.
The match was livened by the inclusion of a Skills Competition which took place between sets and tested the serving and setting skills of the best high school players in the country.
The match will be broadcast on Sunday, December 22 at 5:00PM EST on CBS Sports Network, and again on Tuesday, December 24 at 12:30PM EST, also on CBS Sports Network.
