2024 AVCA DIVISION III REGION COACHES OF THE YEAR
The following coaches have been selected as this year’s AVCA Region Coaches of the Year. Each of the honorees can be considered for the AVCA National Coach of the Year, and the awards will be presented at the Coaches Honors Luncheon in Louisville on Dec. 19, at the 2024 AVCA Convention.
REGION 1 COACH OF THE YEAR
Lindsay Johnson, Colby College
2024 Record (as of Nov. 19): 24-3
Now in her fourth season at Colby, Johnson has taken the volleyball program to new heights. Her 2024 team has been in the AVCA Top 25 the past eight weeks, including reaching No. 14, which is the highest rank in school history. The Mules received an NCAA Championship bid and are back in postseason for the first time since 2005.
REGION 2 COACH OF THE YEAR
Paul Dill, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
2024 Record (as of Nov. 19): 31-1
Dill, who is no stranger to success having earned more than 750 career wins, has enjoyed a magical run in 2024. His Engineers won their first 31 matches this year, dropping only 11 sets along the way. Poll voters recognized the success, as MIT ascended to a program-best No. 4 ranking, where it has stayed the past seven weeks.
REGION 3 COACH OF THE YEAR
Erin Glickert, SUNY Cortland
2024 Record (as of Nov. 19): 26-5
This is the second time in Glickert’s six years at SUNY Cortland that she’s been the Region 3 Coach of the Year. Her 2024 squad went undefeated in conference play and it carries a 15-match winning streak into NCAA Regional play. In the 2024 season opener, she picked up her 100th career victory as the Red Dragons head coach.
REGION 4 COACH OF THE YEAR
Lynn Ray Boren, Gallaudet University
2024 Record (as of Nov. 19): 30-4
Boren has made his 19th season at Gallaudet a memorable one. His team returns to the NCAA Championship for the 11th time under Boren, after it won a third-straight United East Tournament. When his team reach 30 wins in the conference final last weekend, it marked the first time in his tenure the Bison had recorded back-to-back 30-win seasons.
REGION 5 COACH OF THE YEAR
Heather Pavlik, Juniata College
2024 Record (as of Nov. 19): 29-0
Pavlik’s team just keeps on rolling. The Eagles broke the Division III record for consecutive victories (67) in early September, and they enter the NCAA Regional with the win streak standing at 91 matches. Ranked No.1 all season, Juniata hasn’t lost a set since mid-September and the 2024 team is seeking the school’s third-straight national title.
REGION 6 COACH OF THE YEAR
Bryan Snyder, Washington & Lee
2024 Record (as of Nov. 19): 32-2
Snyder’s Generals enter the NCAA postseason No. 11 in the AVCA Poll, which is the school’s highest-ever ranking. That is one of a number of highlights from a brilliant 2024 season, as the team won its first 19 matches—and has won 13 in a row leading up to the regional—and reached the 32-win mark for the first time since 2005.
REGION 7 COACH OF THE YEAR
Becky Schmidt, Hope College
2024 Record (as of Nov. 19): 25-2
Schmidt has the Flying Dutch riding high heading into regional play for the 2024 NCAA Championship. Her team has won its last 17 matches, and its 25-2 record is even more impressive considering they have played eight ranked teams this season. In her 20 seasons at her alma mater, Schmidt has more than 500 career wins and 15 NCAA appearances.
REGION 8 COACH OF THE YEAR
Stacy Boudreau, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
2024 Record (as of Nov. 19): 26-3
Boudreau’s path to earning Region 8 Coach of the Year honors wasn’t an easy one, as her team has faced a rugged schedule. The Warhawks have earned their battle stripes—playing 12 ranked teams—and bring a 26-3 record into the 2024 NCAA Championship. The team ranks also ranks among the national leaders in a number of statistical categories.
REGION 9 COACH OF THE YEAR
Beth Wilmeth, University of Northwestern-St. Paul
2024 Record (as of Nov. 19): 24-8
Wilmeth is no stranger to this honor, as this marks her second-consecutive Region 9 Coach of the Year award. Her 2024 team, which has been ranked all season, earned the school’s 13th UMAC tournament championship in a row and has added another chapter to the 22-year success story since Wilmeth became the Eagles’ coach.
REGION 10 COACH OF THE YEAR
Mallory Matthews, East Texas Baptist
2024 Record (as of Nov. 19): 28-1
It has been a banner season for Matthews and the Tigers. Her team is No. 8 in the final regular-season AVCA Poll, which is the program’s highest ranking. Matthews led her third season to another conference title and a second-straight NCAA appearance, and the 28 wins are the most in more than a decade for an East Texas Baptist team.
