2025 AVCA DIVISION III REGION COACHES OF THE YEAR
The following coaches have been selected as this year’s AVCA Region Coaches of the Year. Each of the honorees can be considered for the AVCA National Coach of the Year, and the awards will be presented at the Thursday, Dec. 18 luncheon during the 2025 AVCA Convention in Kansas City.
REGION 1 COACH OF THE YEAR
Ben Somera, Wesleyan University (CT)
2025 Record (as of Nov. 18): 20-3
The 2025 season has been a memorable one for Coach Somera and the Cardinals. They earned the program’s third regular-season NESCAC title in the last four seasons, and they bring a 20-3 record to the Division III Championship. This year’s NCAA appearance is the school’s seventh in the past eight seasons, all coming under Somera.
REGION 2 COACH OF THE YEAR
Paul Dill, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
2025 Record (as of Nov. 18): 27-3
For the second-straight year, the Engineers enter the NCAA Division III Championship with a stellar 27-3 record. Dill, who is in his 30th season at the helm of the MIT women’s volleyball program, led his 2025 squad to the NEWMAC Championship last weekend, and they will host an NCAA regional for the fourth time in the past five seasons.
REGION 3 COACH OF THE YEAR
Kelly Greapentrog, St. John Fisher University
2025 Record (as of Nov. 18): 29-1
Greapentrog has led the St. John Fisher women’s team to new heights in 2025. This week, they moved into the AVCA Division III Women’s Volleyball Poll for the first time in school history, earning a ranking of 24. The Cardinals lost the season-opener but have since reeled off a program-best 29 straight wins heading into the NCAA Championship.
REGION 4 COACH OF THE YEAR
Don Perkins, Kean University
2025 Record (as of Nov. 18): 29-5
Since taking over as the Kean women’s volleyball coach in 2009, Perkins has enjoyed much success. After earning his 300th career victory during the 2024 season, his 2025 team has kicked it up a notch and heads into the NCAA Championship with a 29-5 record. The NJAC Tournament champs have won their last 12 matches.
REGION 5 COACH OF THE YEAR
Mary Kate Salko, Franklin & Marshall College
2025 Record (as of Nov. 18): 22-6
For the 11th time in program history—and the second-straight season—Franklin & Marshall will be playing in the NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship. Salko’s team played a tough schedule, which included seven matches against Top 25 teams, and brings a 22-6 mark into the 2025 NCAA postseason.
REGION 6 COACH OF THE YEAR
Kevin Cardoza, University of Lynchburg
2025 Record (as of Nov. 18): 26-4
Cardoza has guided Lynchburg to unprecedented success in 2025. The team has reached a number of firsts including making the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship for the first time, being ranked in the AVCA Top 25 for the first time, and posting a program-best regular-season win percentage (.866).
REGION 7 COACH OF THE YEAR
Amber Warners, Calvin University
2025 Record (as of Nov. 18): 25-3
There isn’t much Warners hasn’t accomplished across her storied career at Calvin. Since taking over as head coach in 2002, she has led the Knights to three national championships and 20 NCAA Tournament appearances. Earlier this month, she earned her 700th career coaching win when her 2025 team swept Alma College.
REGION 8 COACH OF THE YEAR
Kim Nelson-Brown, Illinois Wesleyan University
2025 Record (as of Nov. 18): 26-2
Nelson-Brown has enjoyed tons of success during her 30 years at Illinois Wesleyan, and the 2025 season has been the high-water mark. The veteran coach has led the team to its highest-ever AVCA Poll ranking (No. 2 on Nov. 18) and to five wins over ranked teams—including two victories over top-5 teams earlier this month.
REGION 9 COACH OF THE YEAR
Karrah Davis, University of Dubuque
2025 Record (as of Nov. 18): 25-4
It has been an eventful two years since Davis took over as the head volleyball coach at her alma mater. She has the Spartans in the NCAA Championship for a second-straight season, after they opened 2025 with 12-straight wins. Her team earned its first AVCA Poll ranking since 2000 and set a record for most weeks ranked in a season (11).
REGION 10 COACH OF THE YEAR
Mallory Matthews, East Texas Baptist University
2025 Record (as of Nov. 18): 31-0
It was hard to imagine that Matthews could improve on a record-setting 2024 season at East Texas Baptist, but she has. Her 31-0 Tigers are the only unbeaten team in Division III entering this year’s NCAA Championship, and, among many superlatives, they earned the program’s first-ever No. 1 ranking in the AVCA Coaches Poll on Nov. 11.
