The AVCA proud to name a Player of the Year for boys high school volleyball. The award began last year, and the 2026 recipient is Mateo Fuerbringer of Mira Costa High School.

MATEO FUERBRINGER, MIRA COSTA HIGH SCHOOL, JR, OUTSIDE HITTER

• Fuerbringer earns the second-ever AVCA Boys Player of the Year award following an outstanding junior campaign.
• The 6-5 outside helped Mira Costa High School earn the 2026 high school boys volleyball national championship by finishing the season as the top-ranked team in the final AVCA/USA TODAY SPORTS Super 25 Poll for the second year in a row.
• 2026 CIF-SS Player of the Year
• 2026 Best of the West Tournament MVP
• Fuerbringer led the team to a 37-2 record and the 2026 CIF Division I state title.
