AHSVCA Coach of the Year Class 1A – Ginger McArthur, Fayetteville School

Ginger McArthur continues to elevate Fayetteville School volleyball, adding a 17-11 season in 2026 to more than 90 varsity victories in four years. A four-time Talladega County Coach of the Year and repeat AHSVCA Class 1A Coach of the Year, McArthur has worked to transform the culture of the Fayetteville program.

McArthur creates opportunities for her athletes through fundraising for camps and college instruction while helping players interested in competing at the next level navigate recruiting, film and coach connections. Her commitment extends beyond the court through the lasting relationships she builds with players and the respect and support she provides each athlete.

AHSVCA Coach of the Year Class 2A – Craig Long, GW Long High School

In his 14th season at G.W. Long High School, Craig Long guided the Lady Rebels to a 39-4 record and the 2026 AHSAA Class 2A State Championship. The title adds to a tradition of sustained success that includes the 2019 state championship and 2020 state runner-up finish. Long also celebrated his 350th career victory this season, adding another milestone to an already accomplished coaching career.

Under Long’s leadership, G.W. Long has captured eight consecutive area championships, advanced to 12 straight regional tournaments and reached the Elite Eight nine times. The program has also produced standout athletes, including 2024-25 AHSVCA Class 2A Player of the Year AnnaClaire Free.

AHSVCA Coach of the Year Class 3A – Jacklyne Roberts, Fayette County High School

Jacklyne Roberts has built Fayette County into a successful program, compiling a 172-95 record since 2019. She has led the Lady Tigers to three consecutive area championships and three consecutive West Alabama Conference championships while earning WAC Coach of the Year honors four times.

Roberts’ commitment to player development has helped five athletes advance to collegiate volleyball, with numerous players earning All-State, All-Area and conference recognition. In 2026, Fayette County also earned the AVCA Team Academic Award with a 3.83 team GPA, reflecting the program’s success both on the court and in the classroom.

AHSVCA Coach of the Year Class 4A – Kristen Parrish, West Morgan High School

Kristen Parrish has continued to elevate West Morgan volleyball, guiding the Rebels to a 42-14 record and 2026 Final Four appearance after reaching the Elite Eight in 2025. In four seasons as head coach, Parrish has compiled 182 career victories while developing a team with high expectations and the confidence to compete among the state’s best.

Parrish has fostered a culture where players hold one another accountable, celebrate each other and take ownership of their goals. That closeness has created more than a competitive team. It has built the family atmosphere Parrish values and a program whose players have learned to lead one another.

AHSVCA Coach of the Year Class 5A – Kellye Bowen, Jasper High School

Kellye Bowen has quickly strengthened the Jasper High School volleyball program, guiding the team to an impressive 45-10 record and AHSAA 5A Final Four appearance in 2026. A natural leader, Bowen has created a competitive environment where her athletes are motivated to play hard and remain committed to the success of the program.

Bowen’s impact extends beyond wins and losses through the relationships she builds with her players and fellow coaches. Her genuine care for her athletes, strong leadership and ability to connect with those around her have played an important role in the continued growth and success of Jasper volleyball.

AHSVCA Coach of the Year Class 6A – Andie Freedman, Hewitt-Trussville High School

In three seasons at Hewitt-Trussville, Andie Freedman has helped the program reach new heights, including its first No. 1 ranking and consecutive regular-season area championships. In 2025, she guided the Huskies to their first area title since 2010, first North Super Regional championship and first Final Four appearance.

The 2025 All-South Metro Coach of the Year continued that momentum in 2026, leading Hewitt-Trussville to a 29-12 record and the Class 6A Area 6 regular-season championship and State Final Four. With 11 years of coaching experience, Freedman has continued to add significant milestones to Hewitt-Trussville volleyball history.

AHSVCA Coach of the Year Class Single-A (Private) – Ann Schilling, Bayside Academy

Ann Schilling’s remarkable career at Bayside Academy continues to add to one of the most accomplished résumés in high school volleyball. In August 2026, Schilling recorded her 1,800th career victory, ranking third nationally in career victories. She has guided the Admirals to 28 state championships, including a national-record 21 consecutive titles from 2002 through 2022. Bayside Academy holds the national record with 31 state volleyball championships overall.

Schilling’s impact, however, extends far beyond championships. Her philosophy centers on teaching life through volleyball, developing players as individuals while maintaining the standards that have defined the Bayside program for nearly four decades. An AHSVCA, AHSAA, Mobile Sports and Bayside Academy Hall of Fame inductee, Schilling’s honors also include the 2019 AVCA High School National Girls Coach of the Year, 2019 Sports Imports/AVCA Courage Award and 2010 NFHS National Coach of the Year.

“Ann Schilling represents the very best of our profession,” said Kennedy Wells, AVCA Sr. Director, Engagement, Mission & Research. “While her accomplishments on the court place her among the most successful coaches in high school volleyball history, it is her unwavering commitment to developing young people, serving the sport, and leading with courage and integrity that truly defines her legacy. For nearly four decades, Coach Schilling has inspired generations of athletes, coaches, and volleyball leaders, and her impact on the game and the volleyball community extends far beyond the championships and milestones that have become synonymous with her name.”

AHSVCA Coach of the Year Class Double-AA (Private) – Chris Camper, Briarwood Christian School

Chris Camper brings 28 years of volleyball coaching experience and a 772-304 career record to Briarwood Christian, where he has led the program for three seasons. In 2026, Camper guided Briarwood to a 46-6 record, adding to a career that includes 12 Elite Eight appearances, eight Final Fours and three state championship matches. In 2020, he led Hoover to the Class 7A state championship and a No. 4 national ranking, earning Volleyball Magazine National Coach of the Year and AVCA Regional Coach of the Year honors.

Camper stands out for his active involvement with his athletes and a coaching approach that remains focused and consistent regardless of the score. Even with his team firmly in control of a match, Camper maintains the same level of instruction and attention to his players. His commitment throughout each match and attention to his players have helped foster a competitive environment and provide leadership for the Briarwood program.
