AVCA/USA TODAY Super 25 National Girls High School Volleyball Rankings: Week 4

Check out the AVCA/USA TODAY Super 25 and the AVCA/USA TODAY Regional Top 10 girls volleyball rankings as of September 21, 2023. The Super 25 National Rankings are based on the 2023-24 season and determined by AVCA member coaches. Regions are determined by the AVCA.

Mira Costa (CA) is again No.1, and Carrollwood Day Christian (FL) is the biggest mover, up eight spots to No. 14. New to the rankings are No. 18 Blue Valley North (KS), No. 21 Notre Dame Academy (KY), and No. 25 Pole (GA).

Julie Jones nears Milestone 800th Win

Savannah Christian volleyball coach Julie Jones is closing in on her 800th win in her 26th season working at her alma mater. The Savannah Raiders are at 21-6-3 overall this season. Congratulations Julie!!

A New Game In Town: Volleyball

Monticello High School recently added a new volleyball program at the middle and high school levels. The team is playing a junior varsity schedule this season, and consists of 15 girls, 9th – 11th grades.

Head coach at the high school is Ashleigh Kelly, a recent graduate of Middle Georgia State University who is in her first year teaching in Monticello.

Allatoona Volleyball recently welcomed new a varsity assistant coach, Hannah Scott. Hannah is originally from Hawthorne, California, and was an outside hitter for Montana State from 2017-2021.

Congrats Susan Brewer on 1200 Wins!!

Congratulations Bellville High School Volleyball Head Coach Susan Brewer on reaching the 1200th win milestone!! Susan was previously inducted into the 2022 AVCA Hall of Fame in honor her legendary career coaching at Bellville since their volleyball program began in 1977. In honor of her milestone victory this month, Texas Volleyball Insiders named Brewer as their Coach of the Week.

National Merit Scholarship recognizes LPVB’s Braeden DeBlecourt

Lockport High School boys volleyball student-athlete Braeden DeBlecourt is one of three LTHS students honored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for Commended Student recognition. The volleyball program commented, “DeBlecourt is an amazing example of the student-athlete. Multi-sport athlete on top of it. Great job Braeden!”

To qualify, senior students must be recommended by their Principal, and exhibit consistent very high academic performance.

High School Coaching Legends lay foundation for Volleyball Day

Volleyball team honors former player after her sudden death

Brooklyn (NY) – Two rival schools opened up their volleyball season with one heart Tuesday evening. Former volleyball player Caileigh Duggan’s number 17 jersey was retired at Fontbonne Hall Academy in honor of her memory. Just after her first year at college, Duggan died suddenly in her sleep from an undiagnosed heart condition.

Caileigh Duggan was born with a severe eye problem which can lead to blindness. She was able to overcome that and go on to captain competitive teams.

Western NC Area Midseason Volleyball Player of the Year Vote

The Asheville Citizen Times readers recently voted on who they thought would be the Western NC Volleyball Player of the Year. The poll was taken week 6 of the WNC high school fall season, the midway point, amongst 17 WNC Player of the Year hopefuls.

Leaders in the poll were Aubrie Wachacha (Robbinsville), Ryan Green (Franklin), and Kyla McClain (Reynolds). CLICK HERE for the full Citizen Times WNC poll results.

Mater Dei beat Mira Costa in Durango Fall Classic in Las Vegas

Mater Dei’s girls volleyball team is No. 1 in the nation after winning the Durango Fall Classic this past weekend in Las Vegas. Mater Dei beat Mira Costa 2-1 in the tournament’s Championship Division final on Saturday.

The tournament included six nationally ranked teams from California: Mira Costa, Master Dei, Cathedral Catholic, Archbishop Mitty, Huntington Beach, and Sierra Canyon.

Committee overturns IHSAA ruling, says beach & indoor vb are different sports

A review committee ruled in favor of Roncalli junior Logan Bell and overturned an Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) ruling forbidding HS athletes from participating in beach volleyball events during their HS season without losing a year of eligibility.

This decision to overturn the ruling aligns Indiana with nearby states — Ohio and Missouri, specifically; NFHS and AVCA guidance; and the college and international levels — whom distinguished beach and indoor volleyball as separate sports.

2023 MAVCA Watch List for All-State Teams

The watch list for the 2023 MAVCA All-State Teams is available at MAVCA.com. There are now two great ways that you can engage:

• A – Nominate players you believe to be worthy of All-State (top 1% of all players).
• B – Look for players on the Watch List you will oppose this season. Following the match, Provide feedback in the All-State Nomination Form comments section. MAVCA will combine the feedback for each player as part of the review process, at the end of the season.

Tuesday was an eventful night of high school volleyball around Mid-Missouri.

• Helias secured a massive conference win in the close 3-2 win over Rock Bridge.
• Jefferson City won in straight sets against Camdenton.
• Across town, Capital City also sweeps in their win over Fatima.

La Cueva High School Volleyball Dominates Albuquerque Metro Championships

La Cueva High School’s volleyball team sweeps rival Cibola, winning the Albuquerque Metro Championships for the seventh time in eight years with scores of 25-16, 25-18, 25-18. Their impressive performance solidifies their dominance in the metro area as they eye a strong season ahead. With the win, La Cueva has now won 53 straight matches, according to MaxPreps (updated 09/16).

“Yes, much conflict exists in youth sports. In addition, 75% of kids drop out of sports by age 13. New processes are being proposed and implemented in America, hoping to change the poor culture and lack of participation. New proposals and rules will not work until those offering them understand and accept that health, sportsmanship, and “opportunity for all” are not the reasons kids play sports. Coastal Bend area volleyball teams in support for 5-year-old girl fighting cancer

Longtime volleyball coach Alyssa Perez is Eva’s mother, and when Eva was diagnosed in January with Leukemia her mom knew she needed to bring attention to childhood cancer. Alyssa sent a letter to all the volleyball coaches in the area asking them to Go Gold and help raise awareness.

The Life and Light Campaign is one to support Eva Elena Perez and bring awareness to childhood cancer. Her life and her light has inspired volleyball teams in the Coastal Bend to support Eva on her cancer journey.

Walnut Grove sees bright future in 1st year of volleyball

For a volleyball team that rosters no seniors and only a few players with previous varsity experience, it would only be fair to anticipate some growing pains as Prosper Walnut Grove navigates its first-ever season.

Walnut Grove has run a gamut of state-ranked opponents throughout a loaded preseason schedule, doing so while flashing moments of brilliance have first-year head coach Autumn Loyd excited for the future. Read more…
