The AVCA honored 1,432 high school and college volleyball programs with the 2026 Team Academic Award for maintaining a team GPA of at least 3.3. High school standouts include Jonesboro (AR) and Ross S. Sterling (TX), which earned the award for an incredible 34th consecutive year, while Cathedral (IN) leads boys programs with a 21-year streak. Both lists will be published on August 24, 2026. The Phenom Watch List is open to underclassmen in the Fall of 2026 (players with a 2028, 2029, or 2030 grad year). The AVCA All-America Watch List is open to Seniors in the Fall of 2026 (players with a 2027 grad year).
Nominations are open for the 2025-26 AHSVCA Preseason Players to Watch List now until Friday, August 7. Each AHSVCA/AVCA member coach can nominate UP TO FOUR student-athletes.
The fall sports season is officially underway in Georgia. Volleyball teams were among the programs permitted to begin preseason practice on July 27, and they’ll be the first fall sport to start competition when matches begin Aug. 3. As athletes and coaches across the state prepare for opening day, excitement is building for another season of Georgia high school volleyball.
The preseason rankings are rolling out as VYPE Houston counts down its 2026 Volleyball Preseason Watch List. Among teams featured so far are No. 13 Stratford, No. 14 Jordan, No. 15 Dawson, and No. 16 Barbers Hill. Coaches and fans can follow the countdown to see which Houston-area teams and standout players are projected to make the biggest impact this season.

While KY girls volleyball season officially begins Aug. 17, many programs stayed active this summer hosting youth camps. Schools including Lexington Catholic and Glasgow welcomed future players for instruction in serving, passing, teamwork, and other fundamentals.
Led by current high school athletes and coaches, the camps are designed to develop skills and foster a love for the game.
The AVCA’s Senior Director of Engagement Kennedy Wells presented AVCA memberships to the 2026 NCA Volleyball All-Star Blue Team and Red Team coaching staffs. The event was held July 21, at Lincoln North Star HS (Lincoln, NE).
The NYSPHSAA Fall 2026 girls volleyball season features an official start date of August 24. The boys volleyball season opens up with a match on September 1, all leading up to the Girls State Championships

TVBCA Preseason Watch Team submissions were accepted from active AVCA/TVBCA members this month. Coaches submited up to two names to the Watch List, nominations closed Monday, July 13. Learn more.

Check out coaches clinics around the country hosted by AVCA Signature Affiliate and Affiliate Partners, and Membership Organizations. These local clinics offer high school coaches the opportunity to receive quality volleyball coaching education close to home.
The 2026 Tennessee Volleyball Coaches Association (TVBCA) Coaches Clinic returned July 8 at Vanderbilt University, featuring top presenters from Vanderbilt, Austin Peay, Jackson State, and more. The clinic was free for current AVCA/TVBCA members.

The AVCA was proud to attend the 2026 Nebraska Coaches Association Volleyball Clinic July 21, with Christina Boesiger, 2025 AVCA Girls High School Coach of the Year.
We were also honored to recognize the inaugural recipients of the 2026 AVCA Coach Jean Groth Memorial Team Academic Awards. Coach Groth, a legendary Nebraska coach with 852 career wins, left a lasting impact on high school volleyball and the AVCA community. Her legacy continues to inspire excellence both on the court and in the classroom.

The AVCA was proud to join Alabama high school volleyball coaches and officials at the 2nd Annual AHSVCA Coaches Social on July 22, and AHSAA Summer Conference including the Volleyball All-Star Match and AHSVCA Hall of Fame Ceremony on July 23 in Montgomery (AL).

IHSVCA Coaches Clinic (IN)
The AVCA joined Indiana coaches in Indianapolis on July 26 for the IHSVCA Coaches Clinic at Lawrence North High School. The event brought coaches together for a day of education and collaboration, highlighted by a presentation from Indiana University Head Coach Steve Aird. Connecting with coaches from across the state and sharing ideas made for a great day dedicated to advancing the sport of volleyball.

The NFHS National Student Leadership Summit returned this month in Indianapolis, bringing together 220 student leaders from 34 states, Canada, and Honduras to develop leadership, communication, and team-building skills. The program helps student-athletes grow as leaders through sessions focused on service, character, mental health, and community impact—reinforcing the life lessons learned through high school sports and activities.
