Lexington, Kentucky (Nov. 1, 2023) — It will be a great weekend in Huntsville, Alabama, as the AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach National Championships return to the city’s John Hunt Park this Friday to Sunday, Nov. 3–5. The event, which is presented by the U.S. Marine Corps, will again feature a women’s pairs national championship and a men’s team national championship.
The women’s competition brings together 64 pairs from 40 NCAA Division I and II beach programs across the United States. The bulk of the bids—52 of the 64—were offered based on selection criteria utilizing 2023 results/records, and the final 12 were awarded at regional qualfiers. The men’s championship will include five teams, and the competition will use the best three-of-five format.
“The AVCA is thrilled to be hosting the second Fall Collegiate Beach National Championships in Huntsville,” says AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. “This year we are pleased to air the event live with our broadcast partner VBTV. We will be highlighting the best collegiate volleyball players in the country across a network that showcases the best volleyball in the world.”
Through an expansion of the AVCA’s partnership with Volleyball World, live coverage of this weekend’s marquee matches will be available to everyone. On Saturday and Sunday, VBTV will broadcast center-court matches from the men’s team championship and from bracket play of top women’s pairs leading up to the championships match on Sunday.
Details on how to watch will be posted on the event website and AVCA social later this week.
The schedule for the tournament will include pool play for the women’s pairs on Friday, followed by bracket play on Saturday and Sunday. The format ensures that all pairs will play each of the three days. Pool play for men’s teams starts Saturday, and a champion will be crowned Sunday following single-elimination bracket play.
The event is part of a collaboration between the AVCA, event organizer Rally Volleyball, the City of Huntsville—including the Huntsville Sports Commission and the Huntsville/Madison County Convention and Visitors Bureau—Beach Volleyball Consulting, Baden Sports, and Volleyball Life.
