The AVCA is proud to honor Hall of Famer Jim Stone by renaming its online education and resource portal the Stone Resource Library.
“Jim had such a huge impact on our sport, especially in the education and teaching space, and this is a fitting way to recognize him,” said AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. “Naming our education section the Stone Resource Library reflects his legacy as a life-long learner and the passion he had for sharing his knowledge.”
Jim began his career as a head women’s volleyball coach at Wyoming in 1979 before taking over three years later at Ohio State. He led the Buckeyes to 531 victories in 26 seasons, and they made two NCAA Championship semifinal appearances.
Over the past two decades, he has worked with USA Volleyball, produced coaching and training videos, and shared his knowledge through an e-book: “A Game Plan for Better Practices,” and a weekly newsletter. He also gave back to the sport as a clinician and trainer.
Stone passed away last week at age 73 following a battle with pancreatic cancer. His funeral is today in Fort Collins, Colorado; here is his obituary.
