Girls Volleyball Reaches Historic Half-Million Milestone
A new report from the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) shows girls volleyball participation has surpassed the half-million mark for the first time. The 2025-26 report lists a record 502,056 participants, a 2% increase from last year and an increase of 116,034 participants since 2004-05 (386,022 to 502,056).
Girls volleyball remains the nation’s most popular girls high school team sport, a distinction it has held since 2015.
The NFHS report also revealed boys volleyball participation grew to 98,395, nearly 2,500 more than last year, a 2.5% increase. Over the past four years, participation in boys volleyball has jumped from 66,487 to 98,395, and the sport now ranks No. 12 among boys high school sports.
