August 25, 2023 – NFHS CEO Karissa Niehoff saluted the coaches, administrators, media members, state association directors and others who attended the NFHS Behavior in Sports Summit August 14-16, in Indianapolis in an ongoing attempt to change the culture at middle school and high school sporting events. She said a task force will be established and that the NFHS will continue to hold these types of national meetings until people feel safe officiating high school sports.
“Recent surveys indicate that despite the efforts of many individuals, groups and organizations, the behavior at events and abuse of officials is continuing across the country,” said Dr. Karissa Niehoff, NFHS chief executive officer in an article earlier this month. “We are tired of talking about the problems. It is time to start formulating solutions to the behavior issues at high school – and middle school – sporting events nationwide.”
