“Moneyball” for Volleyball: How Stats Build Smarter, Successful Teams
In this session, I will explain how simple statistics that are kept during a volleyball game can be used to make unbiased and analytical decisions to create more efficient practice plans, scouting reports, and roster decisions. The Eye Test/Gut Instinct is one way to coach and make decisions, but if you can have stats that back up your instincts, you can make more confident decisions and make sure you are addressing the most important areas of improvement for your team.
I will use real first-hand examples from matches to explain how I use these stats in-game and post-game, and explain how we evaluate our roster as a season progresses and into the future with adding transfers/recruits.
I think this is most useful for college and high school Coaches who are trying to build success from year to year, but it can also be used by Club coaches who are trying to improve their team from November to peak performance in June.
