What Am I Grateful for Today? Incorporating Gratitude, Servant Leadership, and Positive Psychology into Your Daily Coaching Habits
In today’s ever-changing coaching landscape, it is necessary to build relationships with student athletes, to know how to maximize their potential, and to help them succeed on and off the court. Coaches can achieve these objectives by adopting a mindset of servant leadership and introducing the concept of gratitude to their team. Several studies have found that practicing gratitude leads to positive outcomes related to well-being, such as growth mindset and motivation. Using the foundational elements of positive psychology, this seminar will educate coaches on how to find and emphasize what is going right, instead of only considering what is going wrong. Coaches will be encouraged to consider problems, weaknesses and conflicts through a new lens that prioritizes optimal functioning and positive outcomes. Furthermore, suggestions will be made as to how coaches can use positive psychology concepts individually to improve their coaching philosophy, as well as apply these principles to their team’s culture and individual players.
