Today, we honor the life and legacy of one of volleyball’s all-time greats. On Jan. 24, 1986, at the age of 31, Flora “Flo” Hyman collapsed during a professional volleyball match in Japan of what was initially ruled a heart attack. It was later determined that she passed of a congenital heart disease called Marfan Syndrome. Her athletic achievements and fight for equality for women’s sports served as a genesis for National Girls and Women in Sports Day, which was first celebrated in 1987. Read more about her legacy.

This week we will explore the ” Comparison between Pro coaching vs Collegiate coaching” We will be interviewing PVF assistant coach Gordon Mayford who knows the collegiate game and has been a successful pro coach for a number of years. If timing permits we may also have a guest appearance by the Omaha Supernovas head coach Shelton Collier. The Supernovas will be hosting the Atlanta Vibe in the PVF leagues opening match. Dillon Dahl named interim Head Men’s Volleyball Coach at Olivet Nazarene University.
Purdue volleyball announced a four-year contract extension, through the 2027 season, for head coach Dave Shondell. Shondell owns a .670 win % at Purdue, tallying 458 wins, which ranks eighth all-time among Big Ten volleyball coaches and second among those currently coaching.
