Team USA updates, DI Roster Cap Increase, NCAA Settlement filed

Four of the nation’s top collegiate volleyball teams – Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska, and Wisconsin – will open the 2024 women’s season at the AVCA First Serve Showcase on Aug. 27 in Louisville, KY at the KFC Yum! Center, the same venue where the NCAA DI Women’s Volleyball National Championship will be held in December. Click here to learn more.
Interested parties can get a group ticket code! Organizations whose members purchase over 20 tickets using the code will receive a donation of 15 percent of the costs from the AVCA after the event.
Pending approval of the House settlement, the roster size cap for Division I volleyball will change:
18 for DI Women
18 for DI Men
19 for DI Beach
During a meeting July 23, power conference commissioners finalized new roster-size limits that pave the way for athletic departments to distribute new scholarship funds to athletes. As part of the new revenue-sharing model — beginning in 2025-26 academic year — by-sport scholarship restrictions are eliminated, and schools are permitted to offer scholarships to the entirety of their rosters.
Settlement Documents Filed in College Athletics Class-Action Lawsuits Formal settlement documents were filed Friday to advance the settlement approval process to resolve class-action lawsuits House v. NCAA, Hubbard v. NCAA and Carter v. NCAA – involving back damages and future benefits for Division I student-athletes.
The DII Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) announced it will start sponsoring men’s volleyball as its 25th sport, beginning in the 2025-26 academic year.
Building on the incredible momentum for women’s volleyball in the U.S., Athletes Unlimited Pro Volleyball will return to Arizona this fall for Season 4. Featuring 44 of the world’s top players, the championship season will begin in September. 15 of the 30 contests will air exclusively on ESPN Platforms.

Reinhardt University Athletics sadly reports the loss of Brian Goodhind, Director of Volleyball/Men’s & Women’s Volleyball Head Coach. Goodhind was named AAC Coach of the Year for 2017, 2018, and 2019 and was also named AVCA Coach of the Year (Northeast Region) for 2017 and 2018.
Nominations for the 2024 AVCA Junior Beach All-American Awards are open through August 9! The AVCA plans to select eight (8) 1st Team All-Americans and eight (8) 2nd Team All-Americans. The selected athletes must be athletes that will begin college in Fall of 2024 or Spring of 2025.
Nominate your top high school athletes for a chance to be recognized when the Watch Lists are released in August. Uncommitted athletes on watch lists will also be invited to attend the AVCA Phenom College Prep Program December 19-21, 2024, in Louisville, KY.

Make the Game of Volleyball More Accessible by Establishing a Middle School Training Program for Underserved Communities In August of 2019 Queen City Volleyball Academy formed as a nonprofit organization with the goal of making the game of volleyball more widely accessible to young athletes by breaking through systemic barriers that have historically limited full community participation in the game.
