Volleyball 4 All is a philanthropic fund established by the AVCA to support scholarships, social programs, and grassroot initiatives. The AVCA annually supports coaches who are entering the profession, providing them with the opportunity to attend the AVCA Convention and linking them with mentorship and other professional development opportunities. Scholarships are funded 100% by AVCA coaches and the volleyball community!
The AVCA and the volleyball community extends sympathies to the family and friends of former Texas and Arkansas volleyball player Pilar Victoria, who passed away Thursday. Victoria, who helped Texas reach two Final Fours in her two seasons as a Longhorn in 2013 and 2014, was playing professionally for the Nilüfer Belediyespor club in Bursa, Turkie.
Women’s Sitting Team Sitting Team Advances to Semis in Paris
The U.S. Women’s Sitting Team swept Italy 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-15) on Tuesday to advance to its sixth-straight Paralympic Games semifinal. The U.S. Women (2-1) finished second in Pool A and will play Pool B winner Brazil (3-0) in the semifinals on Thursday at either 9 a.m. or 11 a.m. Pacific time. The U.S. Women have won the gold medal in the last two Paralympic Games.
Kentucky celebrated the re-opening of Historic Memorial Coliseum: home of women’s volleyball, women’s basketball, stunt and gymnastics. The original 1950 building underwent extensive renovations including upgraded seating, concourses, and restrooms; installation of air conditioning; and a center-hung videoboard.
San Diego announced improvements at the Jenny Craig Pavilion (JCP), home of women’s volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball programs, including: a four-sided center-hung videoboard, two end wall ribbon boards, production room upgrades for both in-arena and broadcast content, and a complete replacement of sports lighting and audio systems.
A high school girls’ volleyball team invited Selena Gomez to one of their games over the weekend. The singer and actress stopped by Telluride High School in Colorado on Saturday to take photos with the team and sign autographs for fans in the gym.
Voting for AVCA President-Elect, National Collegiate (NCAA D-I/II) Men Representative, NCAA D-III Men Representative, High School/Interscholastic Representative, and Club Volleyball Representative positions on the AVCA Board of Directors will be conducted October 22-25, 2024.
