Record Number of Volleyball Programs Receive the 2023 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award
The United States Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced that over 1,330 collegiate and high school volleyball teams have earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award this season. This marks an all-time record number of programs honored for their academic achievements. The award honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.
“The commitment our coaches make to help their student-athletes pursue the best versions of themselves is evident in the academic accomplishments highlighted today.” said AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. “Achievement on the court has always been closely tied to success in the classroom which is reflected by the number of championship programs honored.” Press release here.
The AVCA and US Marine Corps. are looking to recognize a volleyball coach and athlete who overcame a significant obstacle during the past year. The nature of this obstacle can be physical, mental, or a combination of both. The selected winners will be provided round trip travel to the AVCA Convention this December in Tampa, Florida to be recognized and celebrated at the event. Click here to nominate a coach or athlete! AVCA Prepping for 2023 Fall Collegiate Beach Championships
Following a highly successful debut in 2022, the AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Championships will return to Huntsville, Alabama, Nov. 3–5, 2023. The women’s competition brings together top players from NCAA and NAIA beach teams across the United States. Bids to play in the event are awarded in three ways—based on results from the spring season, winners from regional qualifying events, and wildcard invitations—with no more than two pairs per school allowed.
The men’s part of the AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Championships will include team competition using best three-of-five format. Four schools will be selected, one from the East, one from the Central, one from the West, and one at large. The event is part of a collaboration between the AVCA, event organizer Rally Volleyball, the City of Huntsville, and Beach Volleyball Consulting. Learn more here!
2023 USA Volleyball Men’s Beach Collegiate Challenge – Signups Now Available!
The USA Volleyball Men’s Beach Collegiate Challenge is returning to Stevenson University on September 15-17. Entry Requirements:
Be eligible to compete for the United States
Be a currently registered member of USAV
Be at least 18 and less than 25 years of age on September 17, 2023

The championship round of the 2023 Men’s Volleyball Nations League continues in Gdansk, Poland. The U.S. men plays France at 11am (ET) in the quarterfinals today, semis are Saturday, and the final is Sunday. Schedule here.

U.S. Women Finish 4th at VNL Finals in Arlington
The U.S. Women’s National Team finished the 2023 Volleyball Nations League (VNL) in fourth place after falling to Poland on Sunday, 3-2 (25-15, 16-25, 25-19, 18-25, 17-15) at College Park Center. The U.S. Women, the defending Olympic champions, finished VNL with an 11-4 record. The team will compete next at the NORCECA Continental Championship on Aug. 28-Sept. 3 in Canada. Read more.
2023 NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship – Coming to West Virginia!
2023 NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship presented by USA Volleyball is coming to Charleston, West Virginia on Sept. 5-10, 2023. Teams competing at the Continental Championship will receive points toward their world rankings, which will help determine who qualifies for the 2024 Olympic Games. On Monday, Missouri lawmakers passed legislation amending the state’s rules around name, image and likeness payments for student athletes, allowing some to access the financial benefits before they even arrive on a college campus. The law will allow athletes to begin profiting from endorsement deals while still in high school—as long as they sign a letter of intent to attend a public university in Missouri. Read more.
The AVCA Phenom Watch List is for the top underclassmen high school athletes who have received some recognition for their outstanding volleyball play. All uncommitted athletes on the Phenom Watch List will be invited to participate in the AVCA Phenom College Prep Program, which will take place December 14-16, 2023, in Tampa, FL.
The AVCA High School All-America Watch List is for the top Seniors who have received some recognition for their outstanding volleyball play. These athletes must have earned some form of recognition such as, but not limited to: All-District, All-Region, All-State, PrepVolleyball Ranking List, USAV HP Volleyball Team, etc. Learn more here.
All-Star Roster Signed up for 2023 Athletes Unlimited Volleyball
Defending champion Bethania De La Cruz, Tori Dixon, Wélissa Gonzaga (aka Sassá), reigning Defensive Player of the Year Morgan Hentz and Nootsara Tomkom are among more than three dozen of the world’s best volleyball players who have signed on to compete in the third championship season of Athletes Unlimited Volleyball.
Athletes Unlimited Volleyball’s third season, which will feature 44 world-class athletes competing over five weeks with 30-match championship season from October 6 to November 6. Tickets will be available at auprosports.com, and all matches will air live exclusively on ESPN Platforms.
Nebraska Pro Volleyball Names President Diane Mendenhall, Announces CHI Health Center as Home Court
In cooperation with the Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF), Nebraska Pro Volleyball is bringing a women’s professional team to Omaha. The team named renowned veteran volleyball leader, Diane Mendenhall, of Lincoln, as President of Nebraska Pro Volleyball. In her first official act as President, Mendenhall announced the Omaha Team will be playing their home games at the CHI Health Center in downtown Omaha.Read more.
