Speraw Named USAV CEO
USA Volleyball Announces John Speraw as new President & CEO
USA Volleyball announced it has hired John Speraw to serve as its president and Chief Executive Officer, starting on October 1. Prior to becoming the eighth CEO of USA Volleyball, Speraw has served as head coach of the U.S. Men’s
National Team since 2013 and has been part of the team’s leadership for almost two decades. Speraw also resigned his position as head coach at UCLA, a position he has held for twelve years. His overall collegiate coaching records stands at 445-208 (.681 winning
percentage) and 5-time National Champion (2007, 2009 and 2012 at UC Irvine; 2023 and 2024 at UCLA) .
Spalding University has announced Eric Garvey as its new head coach for the men’s volleyball team. The announcement comes as the university launches Louisville’s first ever NCAA men’s volleyball program. The team
will be a part of the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MVCL), a men’s volleyball conference in NCAA Division III.
Washington & Jefferson College (DIII) Adds Men’s Team
Washington & Jefferson College is excited to announce the addition of women’s wrestling and men’s volleyball to its NCAA Division III athletic department. Both teams are expected to begin their full competition varsity
seasons during the 2026-27 academic year.
AVCA Boys Showcase and Skills Clinic This December in Louisville. Registration now open.
The 2024 AVCA Boys Showcase will take place at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday, December 21. The cost $99 per athlete prior to Friday, November 22.
*New for 2024* The AVCA is offering a new opportunity for registered athletes. For an additional $25, athletes can take part in the AVCA Boys Showcase Clinic in the evening on Friday, December 20 at the convention center. Registered athletes will have a chance to learn and develop their skills with the guidance of elite men’s college coaches from across the country.
Dan Friend Named Assistant Athletic Director at Lewis
Lewis University Assistant Vice President for Athletics John Ashaolu announced that Dan Friend has been named Assistant Athletic Director for Strategic Initiatives. Friend will still serve as the men’s volleyball
head coach at Lewis.
Matthew Gentry (Lincoln Memorial) and Quin Zilch (Lewis) took gold at the 2024 Men’s Beach Collegiate Challenge at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Md. This was the fourth installment of the annual Beach Collegiate
Challenge and it featured 32 of the best U.S. men’s collegiate beach volleyball pairs.
More than 50 girls and boys athletes will be in Virginia Beach, Va., on Sept. 28-29 for the 2024 Beach National Team Development Program Fall Training Series.
