At Gold Medal Squared, we love studying players from all over the world. This week, we are taking a look at the starting setter for the French Men’s National team. We love his mechanics all around, but this back set is about as good as it gets.
The third week of the 2023 Men’s Volleyball Nations League is happening NOW in Anaheim, California and Pasay City, Philippines. The top 16 teams in the world play four matches a week for three weeks of preliminary competition. The top eight teams at the end of the preliminaries will go to the Final Round.

Home Sweet Home: U.S. Men in Anaheim for VNL Week 3
For the first time since 2016, the U.S. Men’s National Team will compete near its training center in Southern California when it plays its final four Volleyball Nations League (VNL) preliminary matches on July 5-9 in Anaheim. Read the full preview from USA Volleyball.org.
U.S. Men Cool off Cuba to Win at VNL
The U.S. Men’s National Team recovered from a slow start to defeat Cuba 3-0 (27-25, 25-17, 25-15) in a Volleyball Nations League (VNL) preliminary round match on Wednesday at the Anaheim Convention Center.
The U.S. Men (8-1) remain in second place in the VNL standings. They will have Thursday off before three straight days of competition against Argentina (8:30 p.m. PT on Friday), France (8:30 p.m. PT on Saturday) and Bulgaria (8:30 p.m. PT on Sunday).
Opposite Matt Anderson and outside hitter Aaron Russell led the U.S. Men with 13 and 12 points respectively. Anderson scored on nine kills and a match-high four aces. Russell scored on nine kills, two blocks and one ace. Read the full match report from USA Volleyball.org.
The NAIA has announced that it has selected Cedar Rapids Tourism, located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Mount Mercy University as the hosts for the NAIA Men’s Volleyball National Championship. The agreement will run for two years through the championship in 2025.
The championship events will be held at Alliant Energy Powerhouse, a live entertainment venue located in the heart of the downtown region. The venue hosts multiple events from concerts with national acts to major sporting events, which will provide an ideal environment for an NAIA Championship event.

JVA Announced the 2023 JVA Boys All-National Team powered by Fivestar
The JVA announced the 49 student athletes selected to the 2023 JVA Boys All-National Team powered by Fivestar, which recognizes the top male indoor volleyball players competing for a JVA member club in the 15U-18U divisions this club season.
Lower Dauphin boys volleyball visits the state capitol after their third consecutive PIAA championship
After winning their third consecutive 2A boys volleyball state championship, Lower Dauphin was honored by local lawmakers at the state capitol in Harrisburg.
The Falcons finished the season with a 23-0 record winning their eighth consecutive division title and third consecutive district title. Watch the report from WGAL here.
First Point Volleyball Foundation recently published an extremely helpful database that shows the most important leadership members in that state’s high school sports legislature and the person(s) most involved with growing boys volleyball. The list proudly features contacts from all 50 states.

AVCA Coach Recruiting Panel Planned for AAU Boys Nationals
This past Sunday at AAU Boys Junior Nationals, the AVCA hosted a recruiting panel for athletes, coaches, and parents. The panelists shared valuable insight for navigating the boys volleyball recruiting landscape. The panelists include:

2023 NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship coming to West Virginia in September
2023 NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship presented by USA Volleyball is coming to Charleston, West Virginia on Sept. 5-10, 2023. Teams competing at the Continental Championship will receive points toward their world rankings, which will help determine who qualifies for the 2024 Olympic Games. Twenty-one Athletes on Men’s Collegiate National Team
USA Volleyball announces the 21 athletes selected for the 2023 U.S. Men’s Collegiate National Team. The team will train July 2-8 at the Anaheim national team training facility. The group is a mix of high-performing and high-potential NCAA athletes as identified in collaboration with the Men’s National Team staff. Former BYU Men’s Head Coach Chris McGown will serve as the MCNT head coach. Check out the list of athletes selected here.

New York Legion VC Wins 2023 VLA Title
Congratulations to manager Chris Hosley and the entire New York Legion program on their second straight VLA title. New York LVC took down Boston Bounce VBC in the final to claim the title.
Georgetown Men’s Volleyball begins a new chapter with the hiring of Jim Dwyer as the program’s 2nd ever head coach. He replaces Andrew Palmer, who resigned in April for another opportunity.
Siena Heights athletic director Sue Syljebeck has announced the hire of alum Parker Saenz as the SHU head men’s volleyball coach. Saenz was a three-year player for the Saints in 2016-18 and becomes only the second school alum to hold the men’s volleyball position.
