Gold Medal Squared Tip
Middle Blocker Commit Examples
In this week’s video presented by Gold Medal Squared, we share two examples of a middle blocker “commit blocking.” For those who may be newer to coaching volleyball, the commit is typically more common in men’s volleyball. This is basically an “all in” blocking move and is used when a team has reason to believe the opponent is going to set quick. The downside is it typically leads to a 1 on 1 swing for the offensive in the event they don’t set quick. It’s a cost benefit tactic that should be used sparingly.
U.S. Men Win NORCECA Gold for the First Time Since 2017
The U.S. Men’s National Team took the gold medal at the NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship for the first time since 2017 when it beat Canada 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-22) on Sunday at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
The United States finished the tournament undefeated at 5-0. Canada (3-1) took the silver medal. Earlier in the day, Cuba took the bronze medal with a 3-0 win over the Dominican Republic.
U.S. setter Micah Christenson was named Most Valuable Player and libero Erik Shoji was named Best Receiver.
