It has been a huge week for high school boys volleyball, as three more states announced they will add the sports to their list of championship sports. After Minnesota made its announcement Tuesday, Kentucky and Missouri followed suit today. Here is more information on each:
Minnesota: The Minnesota State High School League’s assembly approved a measure that will add boys volleyball as a championship sport in the state by the 2024-25 school year. A big shout-out to Jenny Kilkelly & Krista Flemming of Minnesota High School Boys Volleyball for their years of work that led to this moment.
Kentucky: The Board of Control for the Kentucky High School Athletic Association okayed a proposal to add boys volleyball to the association’s list of championship sports beginning in 2024-25.
Missouri: Officials at the Missouri State High School Athletics Association sanctioned a one-class championship for Missouri Boys HS volleyball starting in 2024. Special thanks to Ken Corum, Scott Guerrero, and Austin Isham for their help to make this happen.
These updates come on the heels of four similar announcements in 2022 from Indiana, Ohio, South Carolina, and Utah, as the sport continues to experience rapid growth across the United States.
