THROTTLE GAMES … AND GAMES TO DIE FOR (RECORDING ONLY)
WAYNE PERRY, LEBANON VALLEY COLLEGE HEAD COACH
One of the biggest challenges coaches have with practicing 6-on-6 volleyball is allowing your starters to compete against the “second string”. All too often these games become blow outs for the starters due to the vast differences in ability. Throttle games are a great way for a coach to maintain team balance for 6-on-6 scrimmages, regardless of either team’s strength, without changing the rules or scoring system for rally volleyball. These games will become intense and the players will learn that they have to rely on good defense and transition to win. Most importantly, they will learn that no lead is safe.
