Collegiate Beach All-America Team

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 17, 2018) - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce its seventh annual AVCA Collegiate Beach All-America Teams.

Eight different schools are represented in this year’s class with each netting their No. 1 pairs. A total of three players are earning multiple All-American honors, with UCLA’s pair of Megan and Nicole McNamara landing their third AVCA All-American award. University of Hawai’i’s Emily Maglio is the other repeat All-American earning her second honor.

The 2018 selections were made by the AVCA Beach Volleyball All-America Committee: chairperson Beth Van Fleet (Georgia State), Kristen Rohr (Grand Canyon), Wayne Holly (Tulane), Capri Grotowski (FAU), Jeff Hall (Hawai’i), Anna Collier (Southern California).

Federica Frasca + Margherita Bianchin – Florida International
Pair record of 26-8 (No. 1 position)…Defeated the three-time AVCA All-American McNamara twins from UCLA on March 10th…Also picked up wins against pairs from Pepperdine, Hawai’i, South Carolina…Named to the CCSA All-Tournament Team…The second and third AVCA All-Americans in program history (2013: Kate Stepanova).

Claire Coppola + Kristen Nuss – LSU
Pair record of 37-9 (No. 1 position)…Went 6-1 to win the Bridgestone USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Pair Championship…Named CCSA Beach Pair of the Year…Took home AVCA/ Pair of the Week honors on March 20th…First AVCA All-Americans in program history.

Madeline Mertz + Kaylie McHugh – Tulane
Pair record of 32-9 (No. 1 position)…Broke program record for most wins in a regular season…Unanimous CCSA Beach All-Conference Team selection…Registered wins against fellow All-Americans Kristen Nuss/Claire Coppola and Federica Frasca/Margherita Bianchin…First members of the Green Wave to garner AVCA All-American honors.

Megan McNamara + Nicole McNamara – UCLA
Pair record of 35-7 (No. 1 position)…Went 4-0 via the sweep in the NCAA Tournament (all four victories were against the All-American pairs from Hawai’i, LSU, FIU, and Florida State)…Nicole McNamara was named the Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Player of the Year…The pair won the Pac-12 Pair of the Year…Helped lead the Bruins to their first ever NCAA Beach Championship win…Both are three-time AVCA All-Americans…Become the fourth and fifth players in AVCA history to earn All-American honors at least three times (Southern California: Kelly Claes + Sara Hughes; Florida State: Jace Pardon).

Emily Maglio + Ka’iwi Schucht – Hawai’i
Pair record of 35-6 (No. 1 position)…Garnered AVCA/ Pair of the Week honors on March 27th…First-Team All-Big West…Big West Pair of the Year…Broke Hawai’i’s program record winning 23 consecutive matches from March 18th through April 27th…Maglio’s second All-American award (2016) and Schucht’s first…The Wahine now have nine different AVCA All-Americans tying Southern California for third-most all-time.

Pair record of 31-2 (No. 1 position) after joining up for the first time on March 3rd…Won all three matches via the sweep in the NCAA Tournament...Rattled off 17 straight victories from March 24th – April 27th…First-Team All-Pac-12 honors…Earned the Pair of the Week award on March 13th…Become the eighth and ninth different Trojans to take home AVCA All-American awards…USC’s 16 All-America certificates are second-most all-time (Pepperdine: 18).
