Head Coach of the Year: Origenes Benoit, Miami Dade College
Assistant Coach of the Year: Alonso Ibarra, New Mexico Military Institute

LEXINGTON, Ky. (December 7, 2017) - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce that Miami Dade College Head Women's Volleyball Coach Origenes Benoit has been selected as the 2017 USMC/AVCA Two-Year College National Coach of the Year, while New Mexico Military Institute Assistant Coach Alonso Ibarra has been tabbed as the 2017 AVCA Two-Year College National Assistant Coach of the Year.

The AVCA will formally present both coaches their awards at the 2017 Jostens Coaches Honors Luncheon in Kansas City, Missouri on Thursday, December 14. The luncheon is held in conjunction with the 2017 AVCA Convention.

Origenes Benoit’s Fast Facts

• His 12th season at the helm of the Sharks
• Won their second straight NJCAA Division I Championship
• Went a perfect 34-0, winning 24 via the sweep
• Dropped just 12 sets out of 114 played
• FCSAA Volleyball State Champions
• Second in the country in team hitting percentage (.319)
• District M (Region 8A) Champions and the No. 1 overall NJCAA Tournament seed
• Won his fourth AVCA Region Coach of the Year
• His sophomore outside hitter Sun Wenting signed a national letter of intent with the University of Missouri

Alonso Ibarra’s Fast Facts

• His second season as a Bronco Assistant Coach
• Helped guide them to a 31-12 season, and a perfect 11-0 in the conference
• Finished in third place in the NJCAA Division I Championship
