Marie Zidek was elected to the AVCA Board of Directors in the fall of 2022 and began serving as NCAA Division I Women’s Representative on January 1, 2023. She was elected to a second term as the Division I representative beginning January 1, 2026. This board seat is charged with leading the DI Head Coaches Committee and serving all Division I Women’s member coaches. Marie’s goals for her term include:
• Help programs add production value to the increased exposure volleyball has on linear and non-linear platforms.
• Advocate for coaches on NCAA legislative proposals and make sure coaches have a voice in the process as partners with the newly established NCAA Volleyball Oversight Committee.
• Commit to increasing growth opportunities for the sport, which includes providing more windows for linear and non-linear platforms.
• Evaluate the recruitment calendar and timeline to ensure that volleyball stays relevant in today’s transfer portal and NIL landscape.
• Continue assessment of the metrics used by the NCAA Volleyball Committee for tournament selection/seeding and discuss ways to improve the process.
• Address the officiating shortage and be a partner in the recruitment and retention of volleyball officials.
If there are other issues you think the AVCA should be focusing on at the Division I Women’s level, please contact Marie or AVCA Division I staff liaison Jason Jones.
