Lexington, Kentucky (Nov. 9, 2023) — The American Volleyball Coaches Association is happy to announce the results of its 2023 Board of Directors election. There were two Board seats on this year’s ballot, and those elected include:
Shelby Forchtner of New Mexico Military Institute, Two-Year College Board Representative
Erica Rau of Oberlin College, NCAA Division III Women’s Representative
Forchtner starts her first full term and Rau begins her second three-year term—effective Jan. 1, 2024. They are part of the AVCA Board, which includes elected representatives, appointed voting members for Diversity Development and Legislation, and non-voting members for Education and Awards.
Now in her 18th season as New Mexico Military Institute’s head women’s coach, Forchtner has led the Broncos to the regional round of postseason every year. Her teams have qualified for the NJCAA national tournament eight times in the past 10 years, finishing as the national runner-up in 2021.
In addition to being Oberlin’s head volleyball coach, Rau serves as an assistant director of athletics and the school’s senior woman administrator. She is the winningest volleyball coach in Oberlin history and has helped change the culture within the program across her 13 seasons.
The members of the AVCA Board of Directors are elected by the constituency they represent to ensure the many different sectors of the association’s membership each have a voice.
