Webinar | Underwater Statistical Analysis: How Much is Actually Going on Under the Surface?

This session takes a deep-dive into new metrics developed for use in collegiate volleyball, their development and validation, and how they can help with performance decisions. The title of this session has a double-meaning that highlights how statistical analysis seems to be going in the volleyball world.
A play on the colloquialism of “underwater basket weaving”, which is to say “a pointless task”: the title evokes the way a lot of coaches might feel about advanced statistics in volleyball. What’s the point? Is it worth the time when there’s so much actual coaching to do? How much do they actually tell us? What are the most important for my team, and how can I possibly choose?
A play on the concept of the ocean as the “last frontier” for human exploration on earth: the title evokes the concept of just how little we know about the power of advanced statistics in volleyball. What’s the limit? How much can it help with our actual coaching? What questions can we answer most effectively and efficiently? And, how can I possibly choose?
Objectives: Quickly assess the state and use of statistics currently available; Share new metrics that can help with future assessment of players; Provide insights into how these and other metrics can be utilized practically at different levels of play.
