Multi-Contact Training for Small Groups

In positional training, private lessons, or small groups we often choose between live play and skill breakdown. Live play can teach the rhythm of the game but doesn’t offer multiple opportunities to address areas that need improvement. Skill breakdowns often don't happen within a realistic situation that the player will see in a game, so players get good at the drill but may not be successful in matches. If our players are getting better at the drills but not better in matches then we are doing the wrong drills. Coaches will learn to find not just what skills to improve but in what facet of the game we need to improve, set clear goals of success for the skill we want to improve, and plan individual drills with the actions before and after the targeted skill.
